Payment solutions and integrations for Kenyan merchants

Find the right starting point for accepting M-Pesa, whether you run a custom site, a Shopify store or a WooCommerce shop. Each guide below explains what is available, what to check and how to connect to Payment Gateway Kenya.

Payment Gateway Kenya is a payment gateway for M-Pesa pay-ins, plus payouts where confirmed for the account. You connect through the API (H2H) or the Hosted Payment Page, which are two ways into the same gateway rather than separate products. The guides on this page are grouped so you can go straight to the one that matches your setup.

M-Pesa payments

Accept M-Pesa pay-ins on your website or app through the API (H2H) or the Hosted Payment Page. The guide explains M-PESA Express (Lipa na M-PESA Online), the prompt-style request started by a business, often called 'STK Push' in Safaricom documentation, and how it differs from PayBill and Till. What you get: an overview of the pay-in flow; how postbacks send transaction status to your system; how payouts, where confirmed for the account, sit apart from merchant settlement.

2D payment gateway explained

A plain explanation of 2D and 3D card flows and what the difference means for a merchant. Payment Gateway Kenya does not offer 2D or non-3DS processing; card flows are 3D-only. What you get: the difference between 2D and 3D authentication; why we only support 3D-only card flows; what to ask any provider that offers 2D.

How to choose the right solution

Start with your platform. If you run Shopify or WooCommerce, open the platform guide first; if you have a custom site or app, start with the M-Pesa guide. Then decide between the API (H2H), which gives your developers full control, and the Hosted Payment Page, which keeps the payment step on a page we host.

Next, map the three flows you need: pay-ins from customers, payouts to customers where confirmed for the account, and merchant settlement to you. Merchant settlements are sent on the same day (T+0). Our overall transaction success rate is 85%, measured as successful transactions divided by all transactions.

Frequently asked questions

Which payment methods does Payment Gateway Kenya support in Kenya?

In Kenya we support M-Pesa. The gateway handles M-Pesa pay-ins, plus payouts where confirmed for the account.

Are the API and the Hosted Payment Page separate products?

No. The API (H2H) and the Hosted Payment Page are two ways into the same gateway. H2H is not a white-label product.

Is there a Shopify app or WooCommerce plugin?

We do not promise a third-party app, plugin or automatic install. Ask our team which connection approach suits your store.

When are merchant settlements sent?

Merchant settlements are sent on the same day (T+0). This describes when settlement is sent, not when funds are credited to your account.

What do postbacks do?

Postbacks send transaction status to your system so you can update orders. They are not a customer notification service.

Do you offer 2D card processing?

No. Card flows are 3D-only, and we do not offer 2D or non-3DS processing.

How much does it cost?

Pricing is custom, so talk to sales for details. Existing merchants can add supported payment methods at no extra connection fee; the number of enabled methods does not change the connection price.
